It was standing room only at the Dallas Fort Worth Airport Terminal D on Saturday where a plane full of military troops from Iraq were welcomed home by a cheering crowd of well-wishers.
Carrollton Cub Scout Pack 114 and Boy Scout Troop 121 joined together to hand out goody bags full of candy, gum and cookies to smiling soldiers as they exited down the narrow corridor. Shouts of "welcome home" and "thank you" came from the cheering, flag-bedecked crowd.
Some soldiers accepted gifts of stuffed animals for their children and offers to use cell phones to place a call to a loved one.
The Scouts all seemed to be energized as the solders shook hands with them and enjoyed the privilege of the one on one contact. One soldier stated that stories about the welcoming fanfare at DFW airport were known among the military troops but he really didn't expect this much excitement.
Military planes come in each day and the USO encourages the public to be a part of the daily special event. Boy Scouts of America encourages the Scouts to participate and has special recognition patches and ribbons to reward Scouts groups who make the trip to the airport.
